USA's Monk television show is among our country's top television shows. Although this is the last season of a multi-year run, Monk features a "defective detective" named Adrian Monk, played by Tony Shaloub. Monk is a hypochondriac, germ-phobic plus lots of other phobics; however he is also a detail fanatic. His attention to details is what makes Monk a super detective. A detective that can solve virtually any problem.

In the business community, attention to detail is often compromised due to time constraints. How often is it found that an engineer will cut corners to save time. Why, because of deadlines. However, if we learn from Monk, detailed accuracy is the cornerstone to solving problems. Too often skipping the details creates more problems than solutions. When Monk solves a crime, it is conclusive. Isn't it time for American engineers to solve engineering and business problems once, and not have to repeat problem solving. Repetition costs money, which in turn increases costs.

For America to become competitive again, it is important we engineer right the first time. And we can do this by using Monk-detailed engineering models.
